What are Air Source Heat Pumps?
Air source heat pumps are a form of heat pump that uses air to generate heat, the heat generated by an air source heat pump is then used to heat your home; including under floor heating. Heat pumps are a fantastic way of producing energy; they are highly efficient, next to no maintenance costs and provide a way of heating your home throughout the year - Even when the outside air temperature is as low as -15° C.
How do Air Source Heat Pumps work?
Air source heat pumps use the same concept as your fridge uses, extracting the heat from the air into liquid, this liquid is then passed to a compressor; after doing so your heat pump transports the higher temperature heat to your heating system thus providing heat and hot water for your home.
Air Source Heat Pumps - Pros and Cons
Heat pumps are a highly efficient and cost effective way to produce energy; they reduce energy bills, possibly increase the value of your home, provide heat throughout the year and allow you to receive tax free payments from the renewable heat incentive. However there may be drawbacks, heat pumps use electricity and therefore have an impact on our environment, but the energy they extract is renewed naturally and constantly.
